Running Calendar Website Updates December 2012
We've made some mostly behind-the-scenes changes to the running calendar website database, most of which you won't see for a while.
Event listings can belong to more than one state
Previously an event listing could only belong to one state, but they can now belong to more than one.
This has meant we have finally added a listing for parkrun; previously we would have to had 6 listings, one for each state parkrun is in, in order for it to be searchable and it would have overwhelmed the calendar listings with parkrun events.
This has required a bit of a change in the database, so let us know if you find any issues when searching for states.
Event listings will have a town/city property
This change you won't see for a little while until all event listings have been reviewed (there are currently 617 event pages on this website so it'll take a bit of time).
The town/city property lets us specify whether an event is in e.g. Geelong, Sydney, Gold Coast, etc. Until now it hasn't been a separate database property and is just part of the event title. This will help you to narrow down your search to more specific locations rather than a whole region.
So we'll be starting to populate this value via some automation and also by manually reviewing it. Once that's done and we rejig the search function you'll be able to search on this too.
Event listings will belong to an organiser
If you've run in an event and like the event organisers and want to be able to easily see which other events they have coming up, then this feature is for you! We'll be grouping events by event organiser(s) and you'll be able to click through from an event listing to see their other events.
Again, there's no organisers currently listed on the site, but we'll set up pages for some of the more popular organisers and clubs initially and continuing doing this over time until it's done for all events.
