Gold Coast Ultras
Gold Coast Ultras was established by former ultra runner, Ian Cornelius, upon his return from New Zealand in 2002.
The Australian 100 km championships had ceased to be held as a dedicated race from 1998 and Ian re-established this race as a dedicated race in 2003. He acted as race director for Kurrawa to Duranbah from 1999 while still in NZ and took over the ownership of that race in 2002.
With the growth in trail running, he established the Nerang State Forest race, Numinbah to Pollys, Convicts and Wenches in Tasmania, all races of 50 kms with shorter options. To encourage people to the trails, he established the Nerang short course series of races in 2013 and the Coombabah Cross Country in 2015.
Gold Coast Ultras continues to foster and develop the sport of ultra running and has strong ties wih Australian Ultra Runners, the International Association of Ultrarunners, Athletics Australia, their fun run arm iRun and Queensland Athletics.
