Australia's Highest Fun RunTo be held in Armidale, NSW on November 3rd 2013
Athletics NSW and the Armidale Athletics Club are pleased to announce the inaugural 2013 Roberts & Morrow Armidale Fun Run will take place on Sunday November 3rd 2013.
This exciting community-based initiative will feature three fun runs: Roberts & Morrow 10km, Sport UNE 5km and Gerard Kelly Solicitors 2km4kids.
The organisers are delighted by the support already shown by the Armidale community and local businesses, for what will be the highest fun run staged in an Australian city.
”Athletics NSW is committed to staging events in regional NSW and increasing participation in athletics across the state. We are very excited about this latest edition to the running calendar”, said Greg Meagher, Managing Director and CEO of Athletics NSW.
Armidale Athletics Club is a direct beneficiary of the run with proceeds from every entry going to the Club. “Armidale Athletics Club is very excited to be involved with this new fun run. It will build on the success of the Armidale Canter that we hold in March and will be a great way for the club to kick start the summer athletics season”, said Club President Jay Stone.
Armidale's Lord Mayor Jim Maher said: “This Fun Run is a perfect fit for Armidale as it not only provides all of us with a fun event we can support as a participant, volunteer or spectator, but also fits in with the Armidales Sports Council's initiative to promote a healthier lifestyle. I encourage everyone to get involved and make this the largest running event in Australia's highest city.”
Roberts & Morrow, already a key sponsor of the Armidale Athletics Club, declared their support as the naming rights and 10km sponsor. Michael Plunkett, General Manager said, “Roberts & Morrow actively support many community events and we are delighted to be involved in ensuring Armidale features a regular, professionally organised Fun Run that engages the community and brings visitors to the region. We have many keen runners in the firm and will be encouraging our staff and clients to participate.”
Sport UNE's Executive Officer David Schumde said: “SportUNE is proud to be involved in supporting this event. It will put Armidale on the Australian Running Calendar and will become known as Australia's Highest Fun Run, attracting runners from all over the country. The 5km event is the perfect distance for anyone wanting to improve their fitness levels, or just have a fun morning out with the family. I encourage all members of the community participate.”
Gerard Kelly of Gerard Kelly Solicitor's said: “This event is vital for Armidale as it allows everyone to work towards a goal of completing a fun run. We need to encourage our children to be active, and the 2km event is a great way for the children to have fun and get involved with their mums and dads.”
Each of the fun runs will start from Harris Park, the home of the Armidale Athletics Club and will head out towards the University colleges via the cycle and walk ways. The course will be officially sanctioned and accredited by Athletics Australia. There will be prizes for winners in each of the three races, an event t-shirt for early bird entries and giveaways post run.
Entries are now open at www.armidalefunrun.com.au. To receive a free event t-shirt and be eligible for the early bird rate, participants must enter by 5pm Friday 11 October.
The event is seeking the support of volunteers and we encourage all those interested, to register their interest by emailing the Armidale Athletics Club at: email@example.com
