CITYTRAIL™ Melbourne: New urban-style running race
A new style of running race will hit the city streets on Sunday 19th April 2015. CITYTRAIL™ Melbourne presented by Salomon is a part trail, part pavement running race and is set to capture the imagination of thousands.
The idea behind CITYTRAIL™ is to make the most of the unique features in any city; turning the concrete jungle into an opportunity to vary your workout, exploring new routes and seeing things you might not find when following the beaten path. The surfaces and terrain vary from pavement to dirt to wood and runners will tackle stairways, cross bridges, and run through alleyways in an adventurous course through the city.
CITYTRAIL™ events have proven popular in Europe and North America but this is the first of its kind in Australia.
The CITYTRAIL™ Melbourne event offers three course distances - 7km, 12km and a 2km Kids' Run. Each course includes flights of stairs, bridges, paths and fun around a number of quintessential Melbourne landmarks. Runners will weave around The Tan, the Yarra River, Melbourne's sporting precinct - AAMI Park, Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park Tennis Centre and the MCG - and then Birrarung Marr and Federation Square.
Runners will be able to enjoy city views, stunning architecture, interesting artworks, historic features, and a different take on their usual running route and mainstream "fun runs".
Rapid Ascent's General Manager Sam Maffett, is very excited to announce the new event.
"I really love the concept of this event as it incorporates aspects of trail running and road running in an urban environment, and encourages runners to really explore their city and make the most of their surroundings," said Sam Maffett.
The event is sponsored by Salomon who owns the CITYTRAIL™ brand worldwide.
"We are excited to bring CITYTRAIL™ to Australia and introduce a new concept of running. The Salomon CITYTRAIL™ range is made for running on different terrain and will inspire runners to explore and discover the city while having fun. It will take you to places that you've never been before!" said Ryan Chesney, Salomon Commercial Manager Australia and New Zealand.
Experience this new style of urban running with the CITYTRAIL™ Melbourne event, starting and finishing at Tom's Block alongside The Tan on St Kilda Road, on 19th April.
