Weekly Newsletter August 12th 2013

This is a copy of the weekly newsletter from the Australian Running Calendar sent by email on August 12th 2013 covering interesting articles, recently updated event pages, and events coming up over the next two weeks.

It took two weeks to clear my backlog of work after one week of holiday... and the newsletter is back on schedule this week on its usual Monday! I have a couple of other projects to finish off this week and next week, and the following week should finally give me the time to finish off some changes I've been working on the event listing pages since May. More details in the coming weeks.

Australia's Highest Fun Run
Athletics NSW and the Armidale Athletics Club are pleased to announce the inaugural 2013 Roberts & Morrow Armidale Fun Run will take place on Sunday November 3rd 2013. The organisers are delighted by the support already shown by the Armidale community and local businesses, for what will be the highest fun run staged in an Australian city. Read more.

Caboolture Historical Village 48 hour race report
The annual Caboolture 48 hour (and 24, 12, 6, 3, 1.5 hour) was held a couple of weeks ago. I can get my head around running for 24 hours, but 48 hours... not so much! Race director Geoff Williams wrote a race report about this year's event, which you can read here.

On the bench: how to keep training when you're recovering from an injury
Cross-training options like swimming, cycling or walking can be a healthy alternative while knees or tendons are healing. But how do they measure up to pounding the pavement, and which is the best for recovering runners? Read more.

Calories in vs calories out: Is it really that simple?
This article has some 'food for thought' :) "Fat loss is easy, all you have to do is eat fewer calories than you burn or so many people would have you believe. If you aren't losing weight then you are either eating too much or not exercising enough. Unfortunately the human body is a little bit more complicated than that and the calories in vs calories out model of fat loss has some serious flaws." Read more.

It's only been four days since the last newsletter, but still a few updates. New listings and dates have been added for: Jells Park Fun Run; Ben Donohoe Fun Run; Kathmandu Urban Adventure Series in Perth; PwC Cool Night Classic in Perth; Armidale Fun Run; City2Surf Sydney; Rainbow Beach Trail Runs; Walk for Prems in Brisbane; Connor's Run; Zoo Run.

And online entry / PDF entry forms have been added for: Burgh to Beach; Run for the Firies; Rebel Run Sydney (plus added a half marathon event); Walk for Prems in Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Launceston, Perth and Sydney.

Note that the start location for the Shepparton Running Festival was incorrectly listed and how now been corrected to Victoria Park Lake on Wyndham Street.

Also, the first race in the Sydney Trailrunning Series at Manly Dam has changed from the originally scheduled date of December 1st to December 8th.

And as per the last couple of weeks, I have no idea if the Rainbow Runs in the next few weeks are going ahead or not. I've still not had a response from my email to the event organisers.

Check out the website homepage for the most recently updated listings, and be sure to check back regularly as there are frequent updates and I check event websites all the time for updates, changes, new dates, etc.

Select from the various options below and click the "Search Calendar" button under the form to show events of the most interest to you. Clear form

All options are inclusive except for the kids, women only and wheelchair options. For example, choosing "On Road", "Off Road", "Short", "NSW" and "ACT" will find on and and off road short distance races in NSW and ACT. Adding "Kids" would limit those results to only events which also have a kids event.
