Weekly Newsletter February 26th 2014
This week's newsletter on February 26th 2014 has interesting running articles, late event additions and important event updates and corrections.
15 Steps to Becoming a Runner
You are probably already a runner if you're subscribed to this newsletter, but sometimes these sorts of lists can be useful (and useful to share with other people who might be thinking of starting running). There's also loads of comments under the article itself, including an interesting discussion by someone who doesn't think humans are designed to run at all. Read the article.
Really Long & Tough ultras
If you're looking for some really long and really tough ultra distance events, then check out the 8 toughest races in the world at The Telegraph and the Top 10 ultra marathons on Earth that I reckon anyone might actually find really a bit hard to do at Running and Stuff. (I love the title of the second one, even if it is a bit long!)
The Hillary in Auckland, New Zealand
On the subject of ultramarathons, here's an invitation from Auckland, New Zealand - THE HILLARY is New Zealand's newest ultra trail run (80km, 34km or 16km) on the legendary Hillary Trail, aptly named after Sir Edmund Hillary. Easily accessible, the Hillary Trail is a 75km trail in the Waitakere Ranges, just 30mins west of Auckland. Find out more here.
A Guide to Common Running Terms
Runners World defines a whole bunch of running terms, including: aid station, brick workout, fartlek, GPS, hill repeats, interval training, minimalism, negative splits, pace and stride rates. Check out the full list here.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
Corrections and updates
- The Townsville Urban Adventure Series had to postpone last week's event until today; the event originally scheduled for today has been pushed back to next week
- The SMC Road Race Series race on February 24th had to be re-scheduled to March 2nd due to the electricity company dismantling power lines on the course
- The Sri Chinmoy Sydney event originally scheduled for May 25th has changed to May 4th
- The Great Ocean Walk has changed from October 11th to October 18th
Have a great running week!
