Weekly Newsletter May 21st 2014
This week's newsletter on May 21st 2014 has interesting articles, our current competition and a new one starting on Monday, two late additions and a couple of date changes.
12 reasons to try a trail race
Active.com talks about 12 reasons to try a trail race: including a change of scenery; timing isn't everything; added adventure; and trail running being nature's obstacle course. Read the article here to see the rest of them and more information about these points.
The evolution of running shoes
Runners World has an info-graphic looking at the evolution of the running shoe, from the 1920s (thin shoes with crepe rubber soles and leather uppers) through to the proliferation of types of modern running shoes and then a guess at what it'll be like in 30 years. Check it out here.
More recipes from Cerise - yum!
Cerise celebrated getting her 50th parkrun t-shirt with a berry bomb cake from The Raw Kitchen's new e-book Raw Armour (that looks super yummy - om nom nom); another recent recipe is fudge made with almonds and dates. Another excellent looking recipe for running and eating.
The superfoods list: 10 choices for race-season success
And while we're talking about food, active.com has a list of "superfoods" that can help in race season: bananas, avocados, berries, eggs, greek yoghurt, hummus, nuts, steel cut oats, spinach and whole grains. I eat pretty much all of those fairly regularly so I must be doing something right! Check out the full article here for more information.
Dynamic Running's sign up
Dynamic Running's sign up is this Saturday at 9am at Muddy's Cafe, 174 Esplanade, Cairns Queensland. Prior to this they will all run the FREE, timed, 5km Cairns parkrun at 7am. This is a new running club that provides regular weekly group training sessions and a social run on a Saturday morning (followed by coffee at Muddy's Café). Find out more here.
Go in the draw to win of 3 prizes of Blisterproof™, a new revolutionary product designed to prevent blisters from occurring. Australian owned and designed, this adhesive fabric acts like a second skin, preventing friction, which is the main cause of blisters. Enter here by June 1st.
Run Tattoos competition starting next week
We have another competition starting next week for Run Tattoos. Stay on pace and run your next marathon PB. Run tattoos are easy to apply & comfortable. No more paper wristbands. Check out www.runtattoos.com.au for more info and watch out for the competition starting on Monday.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- The Sri Chinmoy event at Iron Cove in Sydney on September 14th has changed to September 7th
- Removed the Spartan Race Victoria dates for December 6th/7th as they have been removed on the new event website
Have a great running week!
