10 things no one tells you before you run an ultra-marathon
You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll probably do a fair bit of walking. Damian Hall introduces you to the world of ultra-marathons. Check out the 10 things here. Just as well #6 in the list is true (you don't need to train all that hard), as I never train enough!
6 fun facts about ultrarunning
Since we're already talking about running ultras, here are 6 fun facts about them, covering what they are, when they first started taking place, who's the best, what are the fastest times, what is the hardest race, and where are the most exotic locations. Now if you read both of these ultra articles, you'll see a particular race gets mentioned in both, negatively in one and positively in the other.
The 10 commandments of trail running
And continuing the list theme, here's a list of 10 commandments of trail running, including "honour thy big splashes, for trail runners do not tiptoe around mud puddles" and "remember thy bar wrapper, and pack it out. Nobody likes a Littering Leslie".
Ace Radio Wimmera Grampians Heart Challenge - Run for Russ
I admire event organisers who have the guts to admit their event is struggling for numbers rather than simply encourage people to enter (without giving a reason why) and then cancelling it a couple of days later, as I have seen happen many times. For this reason, I'm giving them a plug here. Run for Russ needs to reach at least 200 entries by July 30th or else they have to cancel. Check out the event here, which has links to online registration.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- Mt Majura Vineyard Two Peaks & One Peak in Canberra has changed from October 18th to 11th
- The Great Rail Runs from Queenscliff to Drysdale in Victoria has been confirmed as March 15th (was originally listed as March 22nd TBC)
- Raw Challenge Gold Coast no longer appears to be going ahead on October 18th, but does have events scheduled for March 7th and October 17th next year
Have a great running week!
