Gabriele Andersen-Schiess at the first women's Olympic marathon
30 years ago was the first women's marathon at the Olympics. Joan Benoit Samuelson won in 2:24:52; Switzerland's Gabriele Andersen-Schiess staggered into the L.A. Olympic stadium a few minutes later, suffering in the humidity and took more than 5 minutes to cover the last 500 meters of the race. Running Times caught up with her recently here.
Runner uses Nike+ app to draw... things
San Francisco-based runner Claire Wyckoff uses GPS to "draw run" pictures of dogs, Space Invaders aliens and other things on Nike+ map. Find out more here at The Guardian's running blog and her Tumblr blog with the pictures here.

Out with the old and in with the new
I "retired" a pair of Mizuno Wave Harrier trail shoes last week after clocking up around 1100kms on them. This blog post has some photos comparing the difference between the old shoes and nice new ones that arrived by courier. I still haven't yet run in the new ones yet...

I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
