Weekly Newsletter September 9th 2014
This week's newsletter has interesting articles, our current competition which finishes on Sunday night, one cancellation, one date change/correction and two late additions to the running calendar.
6 reasons to run in Luna Sandals
I've seen these on various websites a number of times before, and now came across this post giving some reasons to wear Luna Sandals when running. I'm not really sure they're for me (although I've often thought a pair of sandals I had with a Vibram sole would have been quite good to run in) but it's an interesting read if you are interested.
Brendan Davies' Southern Highlands Challenge race report
The Southern Highlands Challenge was run for the first time this year, and Brendan Davies reports that "this race has left a smile on my face which has lasted all week". He also says that the "Race Directors have excelled in these areas; by showing a real understanding of runners' needs, by making and utilising strong community links and by being true to their values of inclusivity and offering value for money." Find out more here.
How to run the perfect 100kms
Another one from Brendan Davies, this time at Ultra168. According to Brendan there are three main things that he personally focuses on when he approaches his 100km races: it's all about the last 25kms; eat early and eat often; and mental games. Find out more.
Comfort in discomfort: why mental practise matters
Competitor.com looks at why mental preparation should be part of your training routine. "How can you transform basic self-motivational skills into focused intention and the mental fitness needed to reach your most sought-after running goals? Turns out, that much like running, practice and consistency makes perfect." Find out more here.
5 tips for marathon training, including 5Ks
Runners Worlds was asked "I am training for my first marathon. My longest run to date has been 22 kilometres and I am so excited... Some of my friends are running a few 5Ks and they want me to join them. Is it ok to do 5Ks when I am training for a marathon?" Find out their answer here.
Osprey 25L Day Pack / Dinner Plain Mountain Running Festival Competition
We have an Osprey 25L Day Pack to give away, thanks to Paul Ashton of Running Wild in Victoria, and the Dinner Plain Mountain Running Festival. In Paul's words, the Great Alpine Road Half Marathon at the festival "has the potential to be the most spectacular mountain road half marathons in the country." Find out more and enter the competition here.
Note that you need to collect the prize from the Running Festival in person. This competition finishes on Sunday and the winner will be drawn on Monday.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- Spiny Cray Ultra on September 21st has been cancelled
- Davies-Creek-Bush-O - looks like I was too quick to add the next date when I saw it on the event website last week and they've changed it at some stage in the last week since then; I had listed it as September 14th, but now it's October 26th
Have a great running week!
