Weekly Newsletter December 24th 2014
This week's newsletter has interesting articles, one late addition and a note about a bunch of events I still need to load up. This is the last newsletter for this year; the next one will be on January 20th-ish 2015.
Virtual race around Australia
I talked about David Alley last week, who will be running all the way around Australia to raise $100,000 for the "White Cloud Foundation". As part of this effort, David is inviting people to participate in a virtual run around Australia. Register on eventzilla, pledge your distance for the month of February and then update with "runfie" photos, screen shots of gps/garmin etc and at the end of February receive a finishers medal. The event is designed so you can run when/where they want but also are committed to a running goal for the month. Find out more here.
A runners' guide to the world marathon majors 2015
This article at The Guardian's Running Blog tells you all you need to know about the big six (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago & New York): how to enter, what the course is like and how many spectators to expect. Plus some top tips from locals on where to train and where to stay. Read it here.
Top 10 ways to be a better runner
Lifehacker has compiled a list of 10 ways to become a better runner, which include getting the right running shoes; lace your shoes for better comfort; track your progress; and letting zombies train you (seriously! there's an app for everything!!) Check it out here.
What to pack when travelling to a race
This article at Runners World talks about packing for a marathon, but it's really for any event that you're going to travel to. It has some good suggestions about packing everything you think you'll need; packing a carry on bag if flying with your gear; wearing compression socks; doing nothing new; and having a gear check bag. Read the article here.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- Summit to Sea (and Sea to Summit to Sea for those really keen) in Adelaide on 03/04 January
Events to load
I have a whole bunch of events to load/check for organisers who have just released their calendars for 2015. These include (but are not limited to): Sri Chinmoy; Cairns Road Runners; Dynamic Running in Cairns; South Australian Road Runners; and more. I'll be getting through as much of these as I can in the limited time I have between Christmas and New Year, so be sure to keep checking back on the websites for running events coming up in 2015.
Best wishes for a Happy Christmas and may all your running dreams come true in 2015! This is Chris signing off until January 20th-ish.
