Weekly Newsletter February 11th 2015
This week's newsletter has interesting articles (including my Tarawera Ultra race report), one cancellation, one late addition and one date change on the Australian Run Calendar.
My Tarawera Ultra race report
I ran the Tarawera Ultramarathon in Rotorua, New Zealand for the fourth time on Saturday, and wrote up a race report over at my new personal blog. I had a fairly tough day at the office, but pushed through and finished with a clear head and in a very positive state of mind. Read the report here.
Paul Charteris, the race founder, has set up a page on his blog to track people's race reports and various other reports in online media, and will add to it as they are posted. Check it out here for updates as people post about their experience.
Ideas for directing an ultramarathon
And while we're still on the subject of Tarawera, Paul Charteris posted about his experiences being the race director and shares some tips for making such an event successful. He's managed to create a world class event in a few years, and created an amazing balance between local culture and a big race. Read it here at iRunFar.
10 entertaining ways to eat it while trail runnning
Candice @ the Wild Defined blog has a cartoon with 10 ways to "eat it" when out trail running (i.e. ways to fall over), which include the roadrunner and rubber-necker, both of which I'm sure I've done myself. Check it out here.
Do "slow" runners ruin marathons?
Beth @ the Shut Up & Run blog talks about a topic I saw come up on an online forum somewhere yesterday, which looks at whether the slower runners & walkers at marathons "ruin" the event. It's an interesting discussion and has so far attracted 48 comments as I write this. Check it out here and be sure to read the comments. For the record, I don't think they do; it's an amazing achievement no matter how long it takes you.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- Albury Wodonga Camp Quality Fun Run on April 19th has been cancelled
- Cumberoona Run at Noreuil Park in Albury, NSW on March 1st
- The Busselton event at the Melanoma March has changed from March 29th to 8th
Have a great running week!
