How Olympian Shalane Flanagan fuels for a marathon
Fara Rosenzweig at Active.com talks to American long-distance runner Shalane Flanagan about how she fuels for marathons. I like this quote in particular: "Drinking while running is hard, it's a skill to learn. It's hard, your GI system is not used to taking in water while running." This is a good tip for any type of fuelling, whether it's water, gels or real food. Read the article here.
How to fit exercise in when travelling
Amanda at Move Love Eat posts some tips for including exercise when travelling: do a quick workout in the morning; do a walking tour; try a new activity; walk back from dinner; take an earlier stop when you're on public transport; and climb a high point. Check out the tips in full here.
Rob O'Donnell, a physiotherapist and former Australian Distance running representative, talks about runner's knee: what it is; signs and symptoms; how it happens; how to treat it; and how to tape it. Read the article over at iRun.
NASA's Mars Rover will soon finish a marathon
So it's not real running news, but interesting if you're both a space and running nerd like me! Scientists celebrate as the robotic explorer, which has been on the Mars surface for 11 years, approaches 26.2 miles. Find out more here at Runners World. Note that Opportunity's mission was supposed to last only 600 meters!
Wilson's Prom Competition
