Interview with Joyce Smith
The Guardian's Running Blog interviewed Joyce Smith, who began running in the 1950s, breaking the world record for the 3000m in 1971 and running at thr 1972 Olympics. She retired from the track in 1979 and turned to the marathon, winning the London Marathon in 1980 as the first woman over 40 to complete a marathon in under two and a half hours. XTERRA Trail Half Marathon & 5K Competition
Go in the draw to win a free entry to either the Xterra Trail Half Marathon or 5K Trail Run/Walk on Sunday April 19th in Callala Beach, NSW. The competition runs until March 29th with the winner drawn the following day. Enter competition.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- parkrun will not be run on ANZAC Day, given it falls on a Saturday this year
- I've removed the dates for Color Me Rad in Sydney (April 18th) and Townsville (May 30th) because they are now showing on the event website as TBD
Date changes / postponements
- Youngcare Budgie Bolt in Sydney, NSW has been postponed from March 27th to October 23rd
- The Stampede in Woodford, QLD has changed from September 12th to 5th to avoid a clash with another event
- Mud Muster in Shoalhaven, NSW has changed from November 21st to 14th, also to avoid a clash with another event
- Sunshine Coast Cross Country Series which starts on March 29th
