Post-Ultra downtime: How much is enough?
A common formula states that you should take one day off for every mile raced. For example, a marathoner would take 26 days off from running after race day. This well-intentioned and conservative guideline was developed to prevent burnout and injury after hard efforts. However, this principle doesn't seem to translate to the ultrarunning world. Have a read of Ian Torrence's take on this at iRunFar.
Weekend-workout fuel: snacks for optimal recovery
Sarah-Jane Bedwell at Active.com recommends a snack that delivers a healthy ratio of 4 grams of carbohydrate for every gram of protein, a combo which helps rebuild muscles while replenishing your body's glycogen stores and gives some suggestions in this article, including banana loaded with peanut butter, granola & raisins. Yum!
101 reasons to run a marathon
101 is probably a few too many (do you really need that many?) but there's some good ones in the list at Run Addicts, including #19: the most guilt-free dinner all time: the after-marathon dinner.
Are you addicted to running?
