Weekly Newsletter May June 3rd 2015
This week's newsletter has interesting articles, and the cancellation of the Tinaroo Trail Race in Queensland this weekend.
Harriette Thompson, the 92 year old marathon finisher
Harriette Thompson, aged 92 and 65 days, became the oldest woman to finish a marathon at the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego. The previous oldest was 92 years and 19 days. "Thompson is not sure if she'll run again next year. But after last year's race she was not sure she would run this one either." Find out more at The Guardian's Running Blog.
Sleep: The Missing Ingredient
We train hard and eat right in an effort to improve our performance. However, we often ignore the greatest performance-enhancing tool: sleep. By simply incorporating more of it into our daily lives we can become faster, react quicker on rough trail, power uphill, and recover rapidly. What's more, it's free, convenient, and legal. Yum yum, Seared Salmon fillet with sweet potato, broccolini & choy sum
This recipe is the perfect addition to a runner's training program. It provides an excellent, nutritionally balanced meal complete with nutritious carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals and the all-important omega-3 fatty acids. Check it out here at iRun.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
