Weekly Newsletter May June 24th 2015
This week's newsletter has interesting articles, one event postponement and one cancellation.
Cheaper than therapy: how running can help fight depression and anxiety
You've heard it before: "Running is my drug of choice." Or, "I run to stay sane." Most people who run, even if they took their first steps with visions of shapely thighs in mind, will tell you that they do it because it makes them feel good. Which begs the question: what exactly is going on in your brain when you run? Find out more at Trail Runner Mag.
OTS: Overtraining Syndrome
Outside magazine looks at "overtraining syndrome", starting with: Over the past decade, ultrarunning has gone from a fringe pursuit for distance freaks to a hypercompetitive sport attracting big-time sponsors. But a mysterious training condition is suddenly plaguing its ranks, robbing a generation of top athletes of their talents and forcing victims to wonder: Is it possible to love this sport too much?" Read the rest of the article here.
Should guys wear shorts over their tights?
Runners World asks the above question, giving an opinion against and then for. The comments on the page currently seem to be about 50/50... Read the article (and comments) here. For the record, I only ever wear the Salomon shorts which are really tights but with a "faux" short built over the top. You'd never get me out running in just tights...
Dan @ Ultra168 responds to the elite runners article
I posted a link to an article last week titled "6 things elite ultra runners are doing that you are not" and Dan at Ultra168 posted a satirical response to that one, looking at what elite runners DO NOT DO that us weekend warriors contend with daily, starting with dealing with multiple kids capable of starting WW3. Check it out here.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- The City Mile Dash at Bangaroo Point in Sydney has been postponed from June 26th to August 14th
- I've removed Dynamic Running's Short & Middle Distance event event on August 2nd, which is no longer showing on their calendar
Have a great running week!
