Weekly Newsletter November 25th 2015
This week's newsletter has interesting articles, and a couple of event date updates.
A runner's secret stash
Don't want to have to carry your water with you on a long run? Derek Call has some ideas in this article at Runners World about where and how to stash bottles of water. Just make sure you go back for them and recycle them if you don't then take them with you.
10 common mistakes runners make, and how to fix them
Whether we care to accept it or not, basic mistakes - the kind nearly every runner makes - are what stop us from reaching peak condition and performing as well as we can. All too often, the thinking must be done first, before the training begins. Here are 10 big errors from runners and coaches to avoid if you want to run your best.
History of Skyrunning
Skyrunning has firmly embedded itself into the Australian and New Zealand trail scene via events such as the Hillary and Mt Difficulty in New Zealand and Buller, Buffalo and the Vertical K in Australia. While these races do an admirable job emulating their bigger-mountain cousins in the northern hemisphere, the epitome and origins of Skyrunning is found in Italy and within the hearts and minds of founders, Lauri van Houten and Marino Giacometti. Find out more at Trail Runner Magazine.
The 10 commandments of trail running
Trail etiquette isn't necessarily about hard-and-fast rules. It's mainly about good manners and courtesy. Lisa Jhung, who is a veteran trail runner, triathlete, adventure racer and journalist has a list of 10 commandments to help guide you on your way in this article at competitor.com.
3 ways to make running more enjoyable
A happier runner is a better runner. So how can you become a happier runner? David Roche's suggestions in this article at Trail Runner Magazine are to smile at every mile; laugh when going downhill; and say "hi" and "thank you". Note that although this is on a trail magazine website, the suggestions work for road running too.
To find out what's been recently updated, check the website homepage regularly. I include in this newsletter a list of the more important updates such as date changes, cancellations or late additions to the calendar. Late additions are events which will take place in the next two to three weeks and have only just been added to the website.
- The Gold Coast 100 Supermarathon has been confirmed as June 11th (originally June 12th TBC)
- The Night Colour Run in Brisbane on December 4th appears to have been cancelled (it's no longer showing at all on The Colour Run website and online entry has been disabled) so I've removed the date from my website listing
Have a great running week!
