Weekly Newsletter January 27th 2016
This week's newsletter has interesting articles and a date correction for the Kiama Red Cross Fun Run.
Dog runs half marathon in Alabama and gets a medal
Ludivine, a 2½-year-old hound dog, snuck out of the backyard and made her way to the starting area of the inaugural Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon. She proceeded to mingle with the runners, run the entire course, cross the finish line in an unofficial 1:32:56, and have a medal draped over her floppy brown ears all without her owner realising she had wandered off in the first place. What Are Dylan Bowman's Ultrarunning Secrets?
Bradley Stulberg caught up with Dylan Bowman to find out his ultra running secrets. My favourite is pizza at the bedside: "After a 100 miler, I fall asleep with a pizza next to my bed. This way, when I wake up ravenous, since I'm generally too wrecked to walk to the kitchen, the calories are right there."
How to file a complaint about a race
Runner's World has some tips about how to go about filing a complaint about a race. I like their suggestion that "before filing a complaint, stop, take a deep breath, and make sure you have considered all the facts and truly have a legitimate case for registering a complaint". Also, if it's about the course distance vs what your GPS watch says, read this first.
Lawsuit against New York Road Runners raises questions about race drawings
Two runners from Utah filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against the New York Road Runners, organisers of the New York Marathon, charging that the race's general entry drawing violates the New York State Constitution. Assuming their lawsuit has merit, goes ahead and NYRR are found to be in breach, this will have wide reaching consequences for very popular events that use a lottery based system for choosing entrants. Date changes & corrections
- The Kiama Red Cross Fun Run is on June 12th, not the 5th as originally listed (this was an error made by the event organisers and the correction subsequently notified to us by email)
That's all for this week, so have a great running week!
