Weekly Newsletter July 25th 2017

This week's newsletter has information about the Kokoda Beach Classic (including a discount code), interesting articles, a couple of date corrections, and late additions of the Santa Speedo Shuffle, Sydney Duathlon & Scottsdale to Bridport Half Marathon.

Kokoda Beach Classic 2017

The Kokoda Beach Classic is a mass participation beach charity running and walking event on the Gold Coast on Sunday 20 August 2017 that includes an Extreme Half Marathon, a 15km Ultimate Beach Run, a 10km Sand Challenge, a 5km Beach Dash, and a 5km Community Memorial Walk.

An initiative of the Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport and sponsored by Adrian's Metal Recyclers, the event focuses attention on those who sacrificed so much on the Kokoda Track in 1942 while it raises money for Soldier On, Legacy, and the Nippers of the Gold Coast.

An event for everyone: find out more at www.kokodabeachclassic.com.au and use the code ARC17 to get a 10% discount.

Interesting articles

Strava local guides
A couple of days ago, I discovered Strava has a 'local guides' section. These are mostly made up of automatically generated lists that people run a lot, but there are a couple of Australian guides with a description for each of the top routes: Sydney & Melbourne.

Avoid comparison to get the most out of your training
If you look hard enough (or even not so hard, if you use Strava!), you can always find someone better than the current version of you, and get discouraged as a result. David Roche offers 4 training and racing tips to stop comparing yourself to other runners. Check them out here at Trail Runner Magazine.

Should track and field reset its world records?
The IAAF has proposed that all athletics world records prior to 2005 be downgraded from record status - the 2005 threshold is based on when anti-doping officials began freezing blood and urine samples for possible retroactive testing after world records. Alex Hutchinson takes a look at the arguments in favour of an unpopular proposal in this article at Runners World.
