6 mental games to keep yourself entertained during a long run
Sometimes a killer playlist just isn't enough to keep you entertained (or distracted!) during a long run, so Runners World has six suggestions to keep yourself entertained. I really like the naming dogs one (and it can be used for so many other things), and while I appreciate the solving long division problems, I think I'll just stick with the simple trying to work out my pace and finish time maths that I so often do myself!
5 tips to increase cadence and avoid injury
Overstriding occurs when a runner places their foot in front of their knee at the point of contact with the ground. When the leg is in such an extended or straightened position, the runner's heel will be the first point of contact, increasing loading on the runner’s legs and body and also slowing the runner down. Physiotherapist Brad Beer shares five tips to reduce your chance of obtaining an overstriding-related injury by increasing your cadence in this blog post at the Gold Coast Marathon website.
'Running is great because it's so simple,' says guy wearing $1,170 worth of gear
Dumb Runner has a satrical piece about us runners, how we love our "cheap" sport that maybe isn't so cheap after all! Check it out here.
An updated formula for marathon-running success
There is a popular formula devised by Peter Riegel in 1977 which is used to predict your marathon time from your half marathon time. Fetcheveryone sampled over 1,000 marathon runners to see how well the calculation worked, and then tinkered with the caclulation to make it a more realistic goal time for most of us. For me personally, the new calculator comes out spot on with my best half marathon time vs my best marathon time. Check out the article here at The Guardian and then the calculator itself here at Fetcheveryone.
