Australia's marathon record for men hasn't been broken since 1986
For years Australian elite male marathoners were getting faster and faster: in 1950, the fastest marathon time was 2:40:49. By 1986, more than half-an-hour had been knocked off that time. But it hasn't been broken since. Women marathoners do not appear to be following the same trend. In fact, they seem to be getting slightly faster, with the current women's record set in 2006. Lucy Bartholomew primed for Western States 100
Diamond Creek's Lucy Bartholomew is primed for the Western States 100 in the USA after her recent win at the 22km event at Ultra-Trail Australia, posted a time of 1:49:54 - she had aimed to complete the journey in two hours - and eclipsed the previous record by 15 minutes!
