Melbourne's Best Runs: Princes Park
Princes Park is a popular place to run in Carlton, North Melbourne and is located directly north of the University of Melbourne.
The part-gravel, part-asphalt flat track is 3.2km long, has distance markers every 500 metres and follows the perimeter of the park, passing sports fields and clubs including the Carlton Football Club and Princes Park Carlton Bowls Club.
If the loop isn't big enough for you (or you don't want to run multiple laps) you can extend your run by crossing Royal Parade into Royal Park and follow the numerous trails around Melbourne Zoo and the surrounding ovals.
Princes Park is also useful for some unique interval training: you can race the tram, which runs parallel with the trail down Royal Parade.
