Christmas Island Marathon
Sunday, 15 August 2027 (Date TBC)
Christmas Island, Indian Ocean
The Christmas Island Marathon on 15 August 2027 is Australia's Northern-most event held just 346.5km from the coast of Southern Java.
The scenic marathon has its origins in Christmas Island folklore. It began as a wager between a few Island Hash House Harriers but it has since grown to become an internationally listed event.
The 42.2km course starts at the top of the island and runs along roads, trails and through tropical rainforests down to and along the rugged island coastline finishing at Flying Fish Cove. Terrain is a combination of road and multi terrain trails. It can be run solo or in a relay team (up to 6 members).
As well as the Marathon, there is also a Half Marathon, a 5km distance plus a 2km family fun walk. Competitors can run or walk (walk is not accredited) the course in any event.
As Christmas Island is an Australian Territory, no visa is required for Australians to enter.
