The Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge on Sunday, 25 March 2018 is fun run style event, where you can run or walk the 11km to the top of Mt Canobolas in Orange, New South Wales.
This event has been cancelled: following the bush fires on Mt Canobolas, there has been extensive damage to the fire trails and tracks used for the course.
The course is mostly uphill but only a couple of sections are steep. From the Start near Towac Pinnacle Picnic Grounds (off Pinnacle Rd) you first visit Mt Towac and then Young Man Canobolas before the final climb to Mt Canobolas. The overall climb is 520m.
For the first time in 2018, there is a shorter 4.6km course which start and finishes at the Towac Pinnacle Picnic Grounds.
The 11km event is hosting the Australian Masters Mountain Running Championships.
