The Rottnest Running Festival on Sunday, 16 June 2019 has a full 42.2km marathon along with 21.1km half marathon, 5km and 10km fun runs on Rottnest Island in Western Australia.
The start of the Rottnest Marathon is heralded by the wail of bagpipes on the Sunday morning. The bagpipes have become a traditional part of the marathon and can be heard throughout the marathon at Armstrong Hill.
The four lap marathon course circumnavigates the salt lakes in the centre of the Island via the sealed roads. Half marathoners run two laps; 10km runners/walkers one lap; and the 5km is an out and back course.
The event is organised by the West Australian Marathon Club, with proceeds donated to Royal Flying Doctor Service.
